Ian Wellman – Last Eaton Canyon Before Fire [u/r 2024] “Cobb Estate at Eaton Canyon on Tuesday 7th January 2025 around 10:30am before the fires hit the same evening. I went to the site in hopes of recording and documenting the destructive winds in some way. It wasn’t particularly windy at the time, and someone came blasting music and singing along with it, so I went up the trail to a quieter bush with a lot of life inside. This recording is a reminder of the rich biodiversity in Eaton Canyon, even in winter. Eaton Canyon has seen over 160 species and subspecies of birds, 15 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 21 mammals, plus at least 130 species of plants. I am hoping to document the recovery process over the next few years…”

“It’s all a big misunderstanding, really, The lights were down, first of all, so unless the fellow was some sort of incredible quarterback, I don’t know how he could have hit me on purpose. But I was knocked out, and the band was busy getting me off the stage and to a hospital. When the lights came back up, there was no band on stage. And of course, the crowd freaked out. Someone should have gone out and explained—the promoter or someone. I mean, the band was worrying about getting me to the hospital, you know? So the crowd freaked out because there was suddenly no band on stage, and things got worse from there.” [Geezer Butler]
